It's been some while since I have sat down to truly write a decent post, or any post for that matter. But my heart has desired to do so, even if my head hasn't cooperated. There's so much that has happened in our lives, as usual, I keep joking with my friend Phyllis that Wes and I should really start pursuing a future as reality TV stars, all they have to do is follow us around with cameras! Seriously, its almost pathetic how ridiculously dramatic our lives are, if it didn't also point to how Sovereignly God reigns in our lives I just might give up hope.
Currently we are on our way, via a minor bump in the road or should I say wheel, traveling across country. We've been trying to get back West with the idea that we'd like to have some time in Billings to say thanks, and goodbyes if it isn't God's will to let us go back there to live. Also we hope to have a job by the first of November since we're without funds starting then. Exciting right?! You said, God will show up in a mighty way, can't wait to see it all come to fruition! Oh, did I mention our trailer which we are towing behind our new to us but slightly used vehicle was a homemade by Wes job? Yep that's right. I can't really complain because he did a fantastic job building it, and saving us close to 800$ in the process and really he couldn't have done anything about the wheel that went shooting off into traffic. Fortunately, or really by God's hand, we had been flagged down and were aware of our wheel problem and so were in the process of getting off the highway when the wheel finally decided to go for greener pastures with out the extra baggage of our trailer on its back. Through it all God does provide, since we 1., were not going 60 mph down the interstate when it flew off, 2., were still in Minneapolis and were in fact only 20 mins away from our friends where we had spent the night, and 3., the wheel conveniently fell off in front of a Wendy's Restaurant one of the most gluten free friendly fast food chains. :) I was doing pretty good with it all right up until I discovered my hairspray had decided it too was feeling the pressure and let off steam inside my luggage, thereby coating the inside of our overnight bag and clothes with a very generous amount of super stiff goo! Yep, the scales tipped. Oh well, Wes along with our friend Ryan, were eventually able to limp our trailer into the parking lot using a very complicated system of go 1ft, jack up trailer, push tire back on, go 1ft, jack up trailer, push tire back on, etc.... quite humorous to sit in Wendy's and listen to all the comments about the idiots outside! :) Wes was eventually able to locate a tire, rim and nuts and bolts for our trailer but after doing so on Saturday he discovered our leafspring was also damaged and so we are still here, Minneapolis, on Sunday afternoon and Wes is growing in frustration and limited on ideas. At times like these my friend Teresa's voice from Suly rings in my head..."Niki you've got to have a sense of humor and a sense of adventure when living a life of a missionary.". Does it count when you are trying to get to the point when you are no longer living a life of a missionary, but your trailer keeps breaking down? The blessings of all this have been great though, we got to hear John Piper speak in person this morning, we've stayed with fantastic friends and gotten to know them much better, and God truly saved our lives on that Interstate with the most unlikely guardian angel. It's like Teresa says, "It'll make for a great story at some point".
I keep being amazed by the way we are taken care of around the world. God has provided such amazing people who have been more than willing to house us, feed us, financially support us, or just sit at a kitchen table and let us share our tears with them. The last year and a half may have not been easy being a 'goer' but I know as a 'sender' my heart will even more tender in the process, and I know I will never forget just how deeply blessed we have been by the people who really got what it meant to be a 'sender'!
Where are we going to be in a couple of months? Will we have a home? A job? A ministry? Our teammates are headed back over at the beginning of November and we believe we will also be going to our next venture, interesting isn't it? How God has had us go through this journey together, even to the point that they didn't leave us behind, or us them? God is truly amazing in His processes, no matter how difficult it may be to have faith in the midst of them.
The pics above are from our trip to Disney with my whole family, my parents treated us all in honor of her retirement. A great gift and a great ending to our visit with my family.
