Picnic

We had a great day yesterday going on a 'picnic' with friends. Now a picnic Kurdish style is a little different than the way we all would do it. And I love it! There's always Chai (kurdish tea), kabobs or Tika in Kurdi, yesterday they had a Gorsht (sheep meat). We could walk right up to Pomegranate trees and pick our own to nibble on. Dolma was the main meal of the day, its a special kind of dish they make here, and I keep hoping to write down a complete recipe someday so I can make it for everyone when we come home. Dolma is when the rice and meat is wrapped with lettuce leaves, but Yuprah is when it is wrapped in grape leaves. Needless to say it is all very tasty! So did you notice the theme of Kurdish picnics?? Food!! Always food, oh did I mention the fresh walnuts from the trees too? And the fresh cherry tomatoes, and the fresh cucumbers and the fresh grapes off the arbor above our heads??!! So fantastic. And the really truly best part was it was only lower 80's upper 70's in the shade with a nice cool breeze blowing in from around the mountains we were nestled between! So beautiful to just look out and be amazed to this land that God has brought us to.
